Our Food Store is the Farm

No more label reading
Boy oh boy was it time consuming reading every label and researching words I couldn't even pronounce on the products in the local markets. I think the icing on the cake was 2 months ago I bought a bag of sweet potato fries from a very reputable health food store for when I was in a pinch and didn't have time to make them fresh. Well, one day I popped some in the air fryer and a few minutes later, viola, they were ready! I bit into one and it didn't taste like sweet potato so I went over to the package to read the ingredients & lets just say for simple "sweet potato fries" there was 10 ingredients in the package and 7 of them were not necessary or healthy. So here we are and gratitude to this farm is in full effect for producing pure foods that God has given us.

Grass-fed meats
80% of cows eat a diet consisting of GMO corn, soy and DDGS – distillers dried grains with solubles. As one can imagine, these foods do not nourish humans so how could they nourish the cows we eat? On the other hand, cattle grazing in the grass produce meats higher in vitamins and antioxidants, with twice the amount of omega-3 fatty acids. This meat also contains about twice as much conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) which has been proven to possess anti-carcinogenic, anti-obese, anti-diabetic, and antihypertensive properties. Grass-fed cattle give us leaner, nutritious meat with lower calories and fat. Check out my blog from 2/9/24 for more deets and local market options for Grass-fed!

Farm fresh
Shelf life? This rabbit hole is too deep to explore right now but expect a blog on it soon... but our foods are filled with SO MANY additives and preservatives and if you're thinking well everything in moderation, google the word "Bioaccumulation" or maybe you're thinking, you can't control everything, so here are some tips because you can control what you are ingesting - Check your labels for words like Carrageenan, Gellan gum, natural flavor, calcium carbonate, Vitamin E acetate, & xanthum gum. Sadly, you are going to see them alot but thats ok, we are empowered now, so slowly start limiting these items today.

Motivation
Food stores became popular and the primary source to feed families in the 1960's. Prior to this, people produced their own food, give or take some of the items from the local general store. Animals ranged free, enjoying fresh air, sunshine, rain and human interaction. Just as humans are deeply rooted to nature (google "outdoor grounding"), so are animals. Sadly, many of the animals we consume live in dark, filthy environments with horrific death methods. There is no denying that negative energy remains in the animal when we consume it. This is titled motivation because farm shopping inspires me to hopefully produce many of my own foods one day.
